Annual General Meeting 2026

Present: Dr. Liang Cheng (President), Dr. Glen Kristiansen (Past-President), Dr. Michelle Downes (Secretary), Dr. Nancy Greenland (Treasurer), Dr. Toyonori Tsuzuki (Asia councilor), Dr Gladell Paner (North American Councilor), Dr Alessia Cimadamore (European councilor), Dr. Fiona Maclean (Australia councilor) and other members of the Society.

  • The president called the meeting to order, welcomed the participants and explained the agenda.
  • The minutes from the last AGM 2025 (held in Boston, USA) were circulated to the members and were available on the IUSP website (www.isupweb.net). These were approved by all.
  • Report of the Treasurer
    The treasurer, Dr. Nancy Greenland explained the financial situation of the ISUP, with our current balance of $45,000 USD, split between checking and savings. In the last year, the new website was a significant financial cost. Additional costs were supporting the ISUP reception at the 2025 USCAP meeting, the Vienna Consensus Meeting, various ISUP awards, electronic voting software and taxes.
  • Report of the Secretary
    The secretary, Dr. Michelle Downes explained the numbers of our members. Currently we have 800 members on our mailing list including 70 junior members. The website was re-built in the last year and the new address is: www.isupweb.net. The new webmaster is Deb Woolwine who can be contacted at: isupwebmanager@gmail.com. She informed the participants about the upcoming Consensus Meeting in Stockholm, Sweden on September 12th 2026, and the ISUP Companion Meeting at the 2026 IAP in Japan, to be held on October 11th 2026. There was a reminder that in addition to the website that ISUP had a social media presence and activities and announcements could be followed on X (@IntSocUropath), Bluesky (@intsocuropath.bsky.social) and Instagram (@intsocuropath).
  • The president welcomed our new councilors: Dr Alessia Cimadamore who became the new European councillor in 2025 and also Dr Fiona Maclean who became the new councilor for Australia in 2025.
  • The president explained the Memorandum of Understanding that was recently signed by the ISUP with the European Association of Urology (EAU) whereby there would be a representative of ISUP on the EAU Guideline Committees.
  • The president provided an update on the collaboration between ISUP and the International Collaboration on Cancer Reporting (ICCR) whereby ISUP sponsored the Urinary/Male Genital Tract datasets. The ISUP logo is included on all these ICCR datasets.
  • Three collaborations with the Genitourinary Pathology Society (GUPS) were discussed. These included: Joint ISUP/GUPS Testicular Sex Cord Stromal Tumor Publication, Joint ISUP/GUPS Indolent Prostate Cancer Publication, Joint ISUP/GUPS Intraductal Carcinoma of Prostate publication and upcoming work on the AJCC TNM Cancer Staging Manual.
  • There was a reminder to contribute to COTM which is managed by Dr Katrine Collins. Cases can be submitted by email to: cotm@isupweb.net. There was an overview of ISUP Presents, chaired by Dr Sara Wobker. Suggestions for lectures can be sent to: lectures@isupweb.net.
  • The president announced new ISUP Special Lectures that will commence in 2026. These are the David J. Grignon Education Award Lecture (to be delivered by Dr. Dan Berney) and the Leopold G. Koss Medal Award Lecture (to be delivered by Dr. Bogdan Czerniak).
  • Two new committees were introduced to the members: The Trainee, Education and Mentorship Committee, chaired by Dr. Alessia Cimadamore and Dr Sean Williamson and the ISUP Global Engagement and Outreach Committee, chaired by Dr Gladell Paner. More information on these committees to be shared in future ISUP Newsletters.
  • Conferences
    • Vienna 2025: In 2025 a very successful multidisciplinary consensus conference on Evaluation of Treatment Effects in Prostate and Bladder Cancer was organized. This took place in Vienna on September 11th. Two working groups covering prostate and bladder met for a half day to discuss the topics. The president acknowledged and thanked the organizing committee of Dr Katrina Collins, Dr Nancy Greenland, Dr Alessia Cimadamore and Dr Shahrokh F. Shariat. Work is in progress on the resulting manuscripts which will be submitted to the American Journal of Surgical Pathology (AJSP).
    • Florence 2024: The five manuscripts resulting from the Consensus Meeting held in Florence on 12th September 2024 (Multidisciplinary Consensus Conference on Precursor Lesions of the Genitourinary Organs) are now accepted and published in the American Journal of Surgical Pathology (AJSP).
    • Stockholm 2026: The president advised the attendees of an upcoming Consensus Meeting to be held in Stockholm on September 12th 2026. This will be a half day meeting (7.30am-1.30pm) focused on Precision Biomarker Testing in Bladder and Prostate Cancer.   • Following the President’s Report, the Awards Ceremony commenced with presentation of the ISUP Stipend Awards and the ISUP Excellence in Urological Pathology Awards.
  • ISUP Stipend Awards

The International Society of Urological Pathology stipends are awarded annually to outstanding trainees in pathology who have demonstrated interest in urologic pathology. Three awards are utilized by recipients to either attend a national or international meeting with a urologic pathology focus or towards travel to study with an expert in urologic pathology at another institution. This was explained by Dr Steven Smith (Virginia) who is the chair of the committee The 2026 ISUP stipend award winners were Dr Garrett Chan, Dr Ngoc-Nhu Jennifer Nguyen, Dr Richard Pacheko, Dr Dong Ren and Dr Douglas Wu. Dr Smith closed the presentations with his thanks to the ISUP stipend award committee, which included Dr Trevor Flood, Dr Arndt Hartmann, Dr Chisato Ohe and Dr Puay Hoon Tan.

  • Excellence in Urological Pathology Trainee Research awards


Dr Alessia Cimadamore went on to present the Excellence in Urological Pathology Trainee Research awards on behalf of the committee chair, Dr Kenneth Iczkowski. The 2026 awardees were: Dr Darrell Christopher Martin, Dr Priscilla Louise Natcher, Dr Sabry Tawfik Soliman Hussein, Dr Guannan Zhang and Dr Ting Zhao. Dr Cimadamore closed the presentations with her acknowledgement of the award committee members, which included Dr Kenneth Iczkowski (chair), Dr Sara Wobker, Dr Katrina Collins and Dr Felix Bremmer.

  • Adjournment
    The president thanked everyone for coming and advised that the additional awards (David J Grignon Education Award, the Grawitz medal and the Leopold Koss medal) would be presented during the ISUP Companion Society Meeting which was following the AGM. The meeting was adjourned at 1.59pm.
